Transmogrification and Collections: Playing Outside

For many players, WoW is not about raids, but about collections. Transmogrification turns this into a separate game.

What is a transmog

Version 4.3 (Cataclysm) added the ability to change the appearance of things while maintaining the characteristics. The appearance needs to be “learned” - open an item in the collection.

Rules

• You can only change the appearance of items of your own armor type and class.
• Legendary items most often cannot be used in transmog.
• Sets can be saved and switched.

How to collect

• Play the old raids (Naxxramas, Tierra del Fuego, Bastion of Twilight) - there are a lot of beautiful sets there.
• Quests at low levels give unique "simple" things - sometimes this is the best image.
• Reputation sets often look better than raid sets.

Why is this other than beauty

Collections are a way to play once content is completed. Plus, many mounts and pets are collected in the "open world", which means you are exploring the game, not just the raid.
