Setting up TellMeWhen

A complete guide to setting up the TellMeWhen addon for WoW WotLK 3.3.5a: tracking the shaman's procs, debuffs, cooldowns and totems.
Review
Setting up TellMeWhen is not a difficult task, but for some reason many people stumble at this stage. In this guide I will try to eliminate all misunderstandings regarding the settings of this addon.
I can’t imagine my game without this simple, but at the same time very functional and useful addition. It allows you to track a lot of necessary information. For example, procs or debuffs. Any useful information that you may need can be displayed on the screen. And this greatly simplifies the game.
- Spell Cooldown Tracking
- Tracking buffs and debuffs (Buff/Debuff)
- Reactive spell or ability
- Temporary weapon enchant - indispensable for shamans (Temporary weapon enchant)
- Shaman Totem Tracking
- Filter “Only show if cast by self” - only your effects in the raid

- 1Download the addon archive from CurseForge or WoWInterface
- 2Unpack the archive into the Interface/AddOns folder of your WoW client
- 3Launch the game and make sure that the addon is enabled in the addons menu (the “Addons” button on the character selection screen)
- 4Go to the game and enter the command /tmw
Setup
First launch - open settings
We enter /tmw in the chat and see the squares that appear on the screen. Right-click on any of the squares and see the settings menu.
- 1Enter /tmw into the chat - stripes with squares will appear on the screen
- 2Right-click on any square
- 3Click "Enable icon" to activate the icon
- 4Click “Choose spell/item..” and enter the exact name of the skill, buff or debuff
Icon type
Click “Icon type” - here we select what exactly we will track. The following types are available:
- 1Cooldown - cooldown tracking. A very useful thing. For example, to know when the paladin’s Bubble will roll back.
- 2Buff/Debuff is the most popular type. Click if you need to track any buffs or debuffs on us or on the enemy.
- 3Reactive spell or ability - usually for tracking fires, trinkets, engineer rockets in gloves.
- 4Temporary weapon enchant - I use it to track when the enchantment from a weapon on a shaman wears off.
- 5Totem is a useful tool for keeping track of a shaman's totems
Buff/Debuff type parameters
After selecting the Buff/Debuff type, we see many intuitive options. Let's look at the main ones:
- 1Buff or debuff? - if we are tracking a buff on ourselves, select “buff”. If there is a debuff on the enemy (or a negative effect on us), select “debuff”.
- 2Unit to watch - select a target to track: player (myself), target (my goal), focus (focus-target), etc.
- 3Show when buff/debuff - three options: “present” (show when there is), “absent” (show when NOT), “always” (always). Example: to track a shaman's Water Shield, select “absent” - the icon will appear when the shield is not on you.
- 4Show timer - turns on displaying the timer of the remaining duration of the buff/debuff.
- 5Only show if cast by self is the most important parameter! Example: I play as a Shadow Priest, I have a lot of DoTs. There are several priests in a raid, and both my pillboxes and my colleagues’ pillboxes are visible on the boss. This option will make it so that only MY pillboxes on the boss are visible in the addon.
